We noted, with concern, that certain members of the public now believe that the implementation date set for POPI compliance has been extended to 1 February 2022. We believe that this confusion may stem from the Information Regulator’s Amendment Notice, which was released on 11 June 2021.
Take notice that the Amendment Notice only applies to the Processing of Information in terms of Section 58, where the Information Regulator’s prior consent is required, for instance where information is processed for other purposes for which it was originally collected for eg Credit Reporting, etc. The deadline for compliance with POPIA remains unaffected.
We urge our client to approach uninformed rumours with caution as may have detrimental consequences.
